Overview
Mozart’s sublime last work – started just before his death in 1791 and completed by his trusted pupil Franz Sussmayr – is a jewel of the choral repertoire and is paired here with Haydn’s 1798 composition, written initially to celebrate the name-day of his patron’s wife and afterwards ascribed to honour the visit of Admiral Nelson and Emma Hamilton to Eisenstadt as guests of Prince Esterhazy in September 1800.
These works compliment each other musically and together they illustrate the pinnacle of choral writing at the end of the 18th century.
